linux
For any of you wondering what my operating system(s) is/are, this page is for you.
My main computer dual boots Windows XP Pro and Kubuntu:
I only use XP for gaming and such Windows-only tasks, since there’s not a lot of other options. But this computer barely meets the minimum requirements (I think) for Vista, and it’s so expensive that we (my family and I) don’t bother upgrading. Especially since XP still does work. It’s just not new.
Linux is my main OS. Like I said, I’m running Kubuntu, a KDE-based Ubuntu, which is based off of Debian. Although I don’t use KDE a whole lot, except for special effects (Beryl). Instead, I’m using Fluxbox. Yeah, I probably should have just installed Fluxbuntu. But the thing is, I started off with KDE, and only started Fb when I installed DSL (Damn Small Linux) on a friend’s computer. Now, due to its low RAM usage (and thus high speed of use and logon), it’s hard to go back. :’( But Debian-based systems are cool, due to their “apt-get” functionality. With just a simple command, you can install anything. Like Wormux, Wesnoth, or both:
sudo apt-get install wormux wesnoth
Password:
Enter your password and it downloads and installs. Very good for installation scripts, so you can just pump this command into the terminal to get the programs I use a lot:
sudo apt-get install wesnoth firefox irssi amarok openoffice emacs gimp blender kate vim lynx thunderbird aterm xsane beagle
Again, just enter the password, wait (for me) about 15 minutes, and there you go. GIMP, Firefox, irssi, KATE, aterm, and a lot of the other programs I need all installed correctly. Cool, neh?
